After waking up this morning and changing all the time keeping devices in the house, also remember to change the batteries in your smoke detectors and those carbon monoxide detectors. It would also be a good time to check the backs of your detectors for expiration dates. Some manufactures have a recommended replace by date on them. These devices save lives when they are working properly with fresh batteries!

A storm system developing to our west today will lead to showers and a few thunderstorms developing from west to east this afternoon into tonight. A severe storm can’t be ruled out over southeast MO late tonight. The main window for severe weather for our area currently looks to be tomorrow afternoon and evening, as a cold front moves through. The Storm Prediction Center has outlined areas generally east of a Sikeston, MO to Pinckneyville, IL line in an enhanced risk for severe storms. All hazards are possible, from damaging winds, to hail, and tornadoes. The frontal passage has slowed down in the last 24 hours and uncertainty still exists on the exact timing of the front through the area tomorrow. So please stay tuned to future forecasts later today into tomorrow as the severe threat area and timing becomes better defined.
